The challenge: maintaining consistent processes for managing Microsoft 365 policies   

Bluebyte was struggling to keep a consistent process for creating and managing Microsoft 365 policies. Although they had standard operating procedures in place for this, the different technicians working within the team all had their own individual ways of working. This led to inconsistencies across tenants, with misconfigured identity policies creating weak security and increasing risks of breaches.  

They wanted to set up a standardized baseline to deploy across all customers but had no automated process for this. They did not have the mechanism internally to host the baseline, neither did they have one which would allow them to deploy at scale.  

They also did not have a system in place to automate backups or provide alerts if unwanted changes were made to their existing policies. They were struggling to maintain best practice and harden customers’ security postures, wanting the peace of mind that they were protected against data loss and would receive notifications when policies fell out of alignment.  

The solution: a standardized baseline and scalable policy enforcement  

By using inforcer, Bluebyte was able to create a standardized baseline for their customers. Through multi-tenant management, they gained a scalable method of enforcing standards, deploying policies instantly across tenants, and maintaining continuous M365 alignment.  

They now use the Deploy and Tenant Alignment features to deploy and maintain a set of pre-defined policies to their customer tenants. Bluebyte can now automate deployment of security policies across multiple tenants with a single click.  

Through inforcer, Bluebyte are alerted when their customers fall out of alignment, making it easier for them to maintain best practices and continually harden customers’ security postures. It is now easier for them to catch unwanted changes or otherwise accept previously approved deviations.  

The results: manual policy building replaced by automated deployment  

Bluebyte has saved a significant amount of time using inforcer, both when enrolling new customers and when strengthening the Microsoft 365 security posture of existing customers.  

Instead of taking up valuable time manually building policies in each individual tenant, Bluebyte only has to focus on keeping their baseline up to date and can deploy at scale from there. It is easy for them to make a change to one of their deployed policies if necessary, either across their tenant base or to individual tenant requirements.  

inforcer has automated tenant drift alerts, saving Bluebyte additional time and resource that would have previously been spent monitoring policy alignment. They are also able to enforce best practice security across their customer base more easily and effectively.
